If you haven't already heard, it's gonna snow,....and from all reports, its gonna snow a lot.
Whenever we have large snowfalls, it's very common to have access to the hydrants blocked as a result. The snow can simply fall from above, be blown by wind, get piled by shoveling, or get stacked by plowing. When this happens, your firefighters are unable to secure a water supply quickly and must waste valuable time digging out the hydrant in an emergency. And this leads to bigger fires and bigger danger for you, your family and your property by diverting personnel at the critical early stage of a fire, when all hands are needed.
So PLEASE....when you clear your sidewalks and driveway, remember your nearest fire hydrant and shovel it out too. Try to keep a space around the device clear, at least 3' on either side and behind it, plus out to the street. This gives us enough room to connect the fire hose and then open and close the valve safely and quickly.
Thank you for your help! It benefits you, us, and your neighborhood if you would kindly adopt a hydrant! |
