Members from TSFR are frequently called upon to rescue those in need, but on Tuesday night July 23, Company 85 rendered an assist to a group of Cub Scouts from the BSA Hawk Mountain Council that was unique. Seems that the Cubs, who were in the middle of a multi night program, were scheduled to have a session in Cacoosing Park on Reedy Road that focused on creeks and streams. However, a recent storm rendered the Park unusable and forced a relocation to nearby Breneman Park playground - which unfortunately does not have access to a creek--forcing a cancellation of the planned topic.

This was brought to the attention of TSFR Deputy Chief Fritz who, on very short notice, organized a demonstration involving TSFR and an assist from Berks Search and Rescue Co 2. Eight TSFR members reported to the playground with Engine 85, Rescue Engine 85 and Utility 85, where they were joined by several members of SAR 2 with their pickup and drone trailer.

TSFR members set up the “fire house” prop and a booster line, a 3:1 rope system and the eDraulic spreaders for a demonstration and hands on experience for the Cubs, while SAR 2 members set up and operated their search drone. In addition, FP Lt Gibbs provided all campers with his playground fire safety talk which included smoke detectors, fireworks safety and home fire safety tips. Both TSFR and BSAR gave tours of their apparatus.

All in all, 20 Cubs and 20 adults were treated to a night of education and fun, but with an emergency services twist.
