The Monday drill for December 9 was a continuation of our Man-Machine Rescue skills. Tonight's drill involved use of several close quarters tools and techniques to simulate removal of rings and other jewelry from patients' anatomies, generally hands. Some of the tools included powered devices such a Dremel tool, and simple like a close quarters hack saw, dental floss and weed cutting string. To add some realism, fake commercial and homemade body parts were used. When performing rescues of this sort, it is necessary to shield the affected body part from the work. Hazards include tool slippage, heat buildup, flying metal shards tool sparks. |
