Possible Structure Fire on Penn Ave.

Just after noon on Wednesday January 8 TSFR Engine 85, along with our mutual aid partners Shillington Engine 36, Western Berks FD Engine E18-1 and Ladder 18, Kenhorst Engine 69-1, Wyomissing Ladder 79, Mohnton Station 57 RIT, Western Berks EMS Medics 6531 and 6504 responded to a reported structure fire in the 2700 bock of Penn Avenue, Spring Township. Additional information provided was that there was an oil tank on fire attached to the building and that the occupant attempting to use an extinguisher.

E85 and Chief 85 arrived on scene with nothing showing, initiated an investigation and had the next arriving engine standby at the hydrant at Penn Avenue and Norman Street. Chief 85 established Penn Avenue Command. and directed L79 to position in a car lot east of the fire address. Capt. 85 reported a 40 lb propane cylinder at the rear of the property that was on fire and venting approximately 10 feet away from the structure. E85 stretched a 2” attack hose line to protect the structure and control the fire. In short order Capt. 85 reported the fire to be extinguished, and the propane cylinder was secured.

Command placed the fire under control and released all companies with the exception of E85, L79, and L18. These companies completed their tasks and were also subsequently released with no additional services rendered. Spring Township Fire Marshal and Codes Departments were advised and reported to the scene for an investigation.
