Early Sunday afternoon February 9, TSFRS was dispatched to the 1100 block of Whitfield Blvd in the North Whitfield section of Spring township for a residential structure fire. The fire was reported to be an air fryer on fire in the kitchen of the residence, with flames and smoke visible. TSFRS Engine 85 responded along with our mutual aid partners from Wyomissing (Ladder 79), West Reading (Ladder 64), Western Berks FD (Engine 18-1), Shillington (Engine 36), Kenhorst (Engine 69-1), Mohnton (Engine 57 RIT), and Western Berks EMS (Medic 6512, Medic 6513). While the companies were enroute, Western Berks EMS Squad 650 arrived and reported smoke showing from the front door. SQ650 further reported that the fire on the stove appeared to be out with negative extension, but a smoke condition throughout the structure. Engine 85 arrived shortly thereafter and secured its own water supply. Captain 85 assumed command and confirmed conditions as reported. In short order the assignment was reduced to E85 and L79. Positive ventilation was established to remove the smoke and dry chemical power from an extinguisher application. The fryer was also removed from the home and power secured to the stove on which it was resting. Chief 85 arrived to complete the investigation and obtain documentation. When all tasks were complete and equipment secured, Command was terminated the assignment was placed available. |
