On Thursday March 6, a direct phone call to Western Berks FD Station 2 reporting a fire at the old Sinking Spring Railroad Station resulted in the dispatch of a full structure fire assignment. As this location was behind the station, WBFD Ladder 18 arrived in short order and reported fire showing from a 1 story commercial. TSFR Rescue Engine 85 responded on the mutual aid assignment and dropped 800’ of 5” supply line from the nearest hydrant to supply water to the operation.

After establishing the water supply, RE85s crew also pulled a 2" attack line to the A-side to supplement the attack already started by L18. Captain 85 did a 360 and found dense smoke pushing from the east side and moderate smoke from all other sides. Crews entered the structure and encountered fire under the floor, in the walls and in a crawl space. RE85 members exited the building to obtain fresh air cylinders and then stretched an additional 2" hose from RE85 to the east side. Crews discovered an attic access and were able to enter the space via an attic ladder. All additional fire was then knocked down and the area overhauled.

Shillington Engine 36 relieved RE85s crew and assisted with the overhaul of the area and RE85 went to rehab. The company remained on location until all 800’ of supply hose and 500’ of attack hose were secured after which they were released by command and returned.
