As crews were wrapping up from a fire earlier in the evening of Wednesday April 23, a call from a citizen reporting a possible gas odor in the residence in the 2100 block of Reading Ave in the West Wyomissing section of Spring Twp resulted in a haz mat assignment being dispatched.

TSFR Rescue Engine 85 responded from Princeton Ave and Rescue 85 responded from station. Also responding were mutual aid units from Western Berks and Wyomissing Fire Depts. R85 arrived and crews met with the occupant who reportedly was having trouble with her gas stove. R85 crew metered the residence and reported no odors and 0 readings throughout.

Personnel observed the operation of the stove and were shown a picture of the condition of the gas flame that prompted the call. However, the appliance appeared to be functioning normally while FD members were on site. As such, the occupant was advised not to use the stove until it had been inspected by a maintenance tech prior to using stove again.
