A structure fire was reported in the 2600 block of Penn Avenue in the West Lawn section of Spring Township on Monday morning June 17. TSFR responded along with our mutual aid partners from Wyomissing, Western Berks, Shillington, West Reading, Mount Penn FDs along with Western Berks EMS. 911 callers reported a fire in the attic, possibly an electrical fire.

TSFR E85 arrived and reported a working fire with smoke showing from the roof dormers. E85 laid a 5" supply line from a nearby hydrant and stretched a hose line to the attic where members encountered a medium smoke condition. A contents fire was found at the top of steps which had extended into the floor and into the floor joists. Crews worked to open up the floor and knee walls in the attic plus the ceiling on the second floor. Both L18 and L79 positioned on Penn Ave and threw their aerials to the roof area.
The fire was contained to the ceiling area and ventilation was started. All companies assisted with ventilation. When the smoke was cleared from the structure Command placed the incident under control and turned the operation over the Twp Fire Marshal to complete the investigation.
