By PIO Rick Schartel
November 9, 2024

Just before 1 AM on Saturday morning November 9, TSFR was alerted for Tanker 85 to assist on a major wildfire burning on Neversink Mountain. Exceptionally dry conditions from an ongoing drought coupled with windy conditions resulted in a rapid fire spread across the terrain, threatening several homes.

Tanker 85 responded and spent the next 13 hours shuttling water from hydrants in the City to support operating units on the mountainside. As of Monday morning, November 11, containment was at approximately 60% with forward progress of the fire halted. Fire size was estimated to have reached approximately 120 acres.

Residents are reminded that a burn ban remains in effect for the Township.

Units: Tanker 85
