On Monday afternoon December 9, a reported oven fire escalated rapidly into a working fire with a second alarm upgrade at an apartment complex in Sinking Spring Borough. TSFRS was dispatched to assist Western Berks FD, and both Engine 85 and Chief 85 responded. The fire was originally reported to be an oven, with alarms sounding and was subsequently revised to be an air fryer.
WBFD L18 arrived with a two-story middle of the row apartment with nothing showing but shortly thereafter changed to a working fire on the second floor upon further investigation. E85 assisted WBFD E18-1 with water supply and the crew stretched an additional attack hose line. C85 was assigned to the rear position from which he reported fire showing from the second floor with smoke running the gutter line.
Interior crews reported water on the fire and conditions began to improve with a moderate amount of smoke pushing from the gutter line. WFD L79 opened the roof and reported no vertical extension with a fire wall on each side of the fire apartment. All visible fire was quickly extinguished, and crews performed overhaul, salvage, and mechanical ventilation.
When the supply line was repacked and all other tasks were completed, E85 was released by Command. |
