The final Monday night drill for 2024 was held on Monday night December 30. Members practiced procedures and techniques to rescue victims of impalement accidents. This was the final installment in a series of man-machine rescue drills held during December.
In many cases, the source of the impalement must be removed from its host device and then finally removed by surgical procedures in a hospital setting. This requires a gentle operation to minimize movement and accompanying damage to the patient and then securing the impalement site for the transport to the hospital. In other cases, it's a matter of displacing the mechanism of entrapment to allow a gentle extrication of the entrapped body part. Techniques to support both these options were practiced with precision cutting and displacement tasks.
