Around 7:30 PM on New Year's Eve 2024, TSFR Engine 85 and Deputy 85 responded on a mutual aid assignment, assisting the Cumru Twp Fire Dept. for a structure fire with possible multiple entrapments in an occupied nursing home. The initial report from a first arriving EMS unit confirmed a working fire in a resident's room with smoke showing.
On arrival, E85s crew was directed by Command to the fire area to assist with search, rescue and evacuation. Members also determined that the fire was under control with an operating sprinkler head. E85 personnel assisted with carrying out occupant evacuation, overhauling smoldering in the fire area, venting of a heavy smoke condition and securing the sprinkler system. DC85 reported to the area and initially served as the Wing 300 Branch supervisor and then assisted the Unified Command Post with the relocation of occupants and the investigation phase of the incident.
E85s crew secured its equipment, and when authorized to do so, returned to quarters while DC85 remained to assist Command. During the period that E85 was committed, the station was staffed by the Fire Chief and a volunteer crew. These members covered a kitchen fire in Wyomissing Boro with Rescue Engine 85. |
