Late in the afternoon of Tuesday February 25, a vehicle fire occurred on Adamstown Road in southern Spring Township. Owing to the fact that the vehicle was reported to be less than 10 feet from a building, the full structure fire assignment was dispatched. This included TSFRS Engine 85 and Tanker 85, Wyomissing Station 79, Adamstown (Lancaster Co.), Engine 11-1, Shillington Engine 36, Cumru Twp Tanker 42, Brecknock Twp Tanker 72, Western Berks FD Ladder 18, Denver (Lancaster County) Rescue 13 for RIT, and Western Berks EMS Medic 6512 Berks County Communications confirmed a truck engine compartment fire within ten feet of a barn.
Adamstown Asst. Chief 11 arrived first and reported that the fire appeared to be out. Accordingly, TSFRS Chief 85 confirmed the report and requested that the assignment be held to E85, E11-1, and TN42. When Chief 85 arrived on scene, he assumed command and was advised that bystanders used several dry chemical extinguishers to extinguish the fire.
Personnel investigated and determined the fire to be out, but with high heat from the engine compartment. This was wet down with E85s booster line after which the crew also powered down the vehicle. When all tasks were completed, the assignment was released, and the chief remained to obtain necessary information. |
