At approximately 2100 hours on Monday night March 17, TSFRS was alerted as part of a structure fire assignment to assist the Wyomissing Fire Dept with a report of smoke in the apartment on Gaelsong Drive in the Highlands campus off Cambridge Avenue. While enroute, County Communications advised that the call was for a fire alarm activation with a smoke condition which was possibly caused by a coffee pot left on the stove.
Wyo FD Ladder 79 arrived and reported a multi-story, multi-tenant occupancy with nothing showing from the exterior. Capt. 79 assumed Gaelsong Command. E85 took the A (front) side of the building behind L79 and when Deputy 85 arrived, Command was effectively transferred. Capt. 79 then assumed supervision of the interior operations.
After investigating. Command was advised that there was no fire, but that ventilation of the smoke condition was required. E85s crew silenced the audible fire alarm and brought fans to the fire floor to join L79 with mechanical ventilation. Command then held the assignment to E85 and L79 with the balance to return.
DC85 assisted Capt. 79 with the investigation, taking picture of the involved coffee pot, and interviewing the occupant. When all tasks were completed, all units were placed available, and Command was terminated. |
