A structure fire assignment was dispatched to Hawthorne Court in the Spring Ridge section of the Township on the morning of June 8, for a possible chimney fire. TSFR Engine 85 arrived and reported smoke showing from the rear of the occupancy, and end of row townhouse. Further investigation revealed fire showing from the top of a wood frame enclosure for a vent flue from a gas fireplace.

Wyo FD Ladder 79 arrived and laddered the structure while the crew provided ground ladders to the rear to access the enclosure. Reading FD Ladder 1 and Engine 3 arrived along with West Reading Engine 64 to secure water and provide extra hands. The balance of the assignment was returned when it was determined that the fire was confined to the very top of the enclosure.
Members opened the area, extinguished the fire and verified that no extension had occurred.
